Workpackage 2: Unravelling the complex pathophysiology of epileptogenesis for preclinical development of new disease-modifying treatments
Objectives of the Workpackage
The main objectives of this workpackage are the following:
- To study novel molecules/pathways involved in key etiopathogenic mechanisms of epileptogenesis: We will examine the brain expression, blood levels and neuromodulatory properties of molecules involved in key etiopathogenic mechanisms of epileptogenesis using clinically relevant model systems
- To study antiepileptogenic effects of combinatorial treatments: We will develop antiepileptogenic treatments based on combination of novel mechanism-target drugs and on novel combinations of clinically used drugs
- To study the antiepileptogenic effects of novel combinatorial treatments using clinically used drugs
- To develop tests for facilitating preclinical antiepileptogenic drug development to improve and foster drug discovery
